Marie's Biography:
"Marie Eyre" was the pen name of a lovely lady from Toronto, Ontario, who valued her privacy, yet gave so much of her time, talent, and infectious enthusiasm to others. Her poems, paintings, and short stories appeared in The Green Tricycle, The Book of Remembrance, Cenotaph, Pocket Edition, and Retrozine, all published by Cayuse Press. These gems were always accompanied by a modest biography. Here's her bio, in her own words, assembled from her contributions over the years:
"I am a retired musician and published author, residing in Ontario, Canada. I have been published on the Internet, in literary journals, and in newspaper venues. Also, I enjoyed a position as Guest Co-Editor of The Green Tricycle, a journal published by Cayuse Press. My interests, outside the written word, lie in the fields of Quantum Physics and UFOlogy. Recently published works include Hawkwind Literary Magazine, Menstress Moon, Nectarzine, Cenotaph Pocket Edition, Seeker Magazine, Lingerings, Junket, and Book of Remembrance.
"All childhood memories are accredited to a wonderful family and the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada!"
Marie was held in very high regard by editors, publishers, poetry boards, and fellow authors. She won a Gold Medal from NPAC Best of The Best Poetry Competition. Of that time she wrote in a note in early February, "I have been riding a little bit of a roller coaster, with life, since just before Christmas. In December I learned that I had won gold in the NPAC Poetry Competition. $500.00 American! I was floored for weeks! Never in my life had I won such a prize for anything! :)"
Marie unexpectedly passed away in July after a short battle with cancer. She leaves a grief-stricken husband, two grown daughters who she was so proud of, and family in Canada, and an admiring Internet family scattered all over the world.
Cayuse Press Remembers Marie:
Marie Eyre inspired everyone who knew her. Her colleagues at Cayuse Press miss her cheerful notes, thoughtful suggestions, and uncomplicated approach to problem solving. The editors shared their thoughts of Marie's passing and to a person, she was remembered as "sweet" and "nurturing" and "gentle."
Marie's co-editor at The Green Tricycle, Diane Schuller wrote, "I feel so empty." She added, "Marie touched a lot of people and in such a positive and generous way. I miss her."
Retrozine editor Penny Gerking noted, "She was so warm: her thoughtfulness shone out of her every note, or crit, or appreciation of someone else's work. Such a sunny soul! The world is a darker place without her."
We're all still in shock. The emptiness Diane mentioned is still with us. Cayuse Press won't be the same without our dear Marie. Cenotaph editor Paul Tylor summed up our feelings best when he wrote, "Our loss is heaven's gain..." Indeed.
