Kites

The sky is crayon blue
as the nimbus sheep
are pulled across the sky
on a string.

A child runs below
turning out reel after reel.
It's how he feels skipping
down the air of the vacant lot
that makes this spring.

A boy with a kite,
a sky roving with sheep --
I am nine again, I have a kite
and I am free.
