The Woman Released: A Greek Testament
Thrust deep within: the light of Apollo.
In his brightness I am reckoned alive.
I seek to be wine in lost amphorae,
the last lover touching Hercules' lips,
and the last anemone in his palm.
To run unclad for Augustus' ghosts
in the thickly-sweet Nikopolis night...
Poseidon, make theft of me the same way
you made-off with the youth reborn in the
cauldron of Hermes. Cut my flowers to
weave garlands for witches of Thessaly.
I'll ask the Aegean to drink my flesh
with the surety of a grieving king --
then set me upon a trireme of souls,
to brush the tresses of Persephone.
