Calliope Songs

Is my blue his?
                              Outside his head, beyond
my eyes, the universe is colorless, silent.
Only through language can he answer.

      I tell myself in petulance,

                              I don't need him near.

In tinsel-white noon, he'd already be
nanoseconds older than my perceptions.
Under the moon -- at most
a second-hand reflection of the sun,

yet in his rhyme -- Calliope's eloquence --
         a beacon       the violet gorget
         of her namesake hummingbird
         amidst ever green manzanita.

Words a fontanel to his reality      for me
he comes to light,

                                    my body rings his name.
