Life Origins Get Murkier and Messier

(headline, New York Times, 6/13/00)

Things keep getting
          so damned complicated,
a frayed string of knots and tangles

at a time when, in my heart and mind,
          I begin each morning
          with a cry for simplicity,
          clarity, surety,
          simple lucidity.

I don't need any more intricate
swirls of color and abstract design
          in my life right now,
I want some some plain old
          black and white,
          straight lines,
          clean choices,
          clear horizons.

I keep trying to simplify life
and life keeps fighting back.

~Allen Itz

Allen writes: I began writing again in 1998 after thirty years of attending to other matters like career and family. I have a special regard for Cayuse Press because it was my first on-line publisher. My work has appeared frequently in The Green Tricycle, and The Horsethief's Journal, plus a number of other online poetry journals. Email.
