Praying For. . .

I'm sick to death of being philosophical
about loneliness,
and I don't want to walk through this world
alone anymore.
I want is to be somebody's baby,
somebody's darling, someone's beloved,
somebody's rock, someone's desire,
to see the light in someone's eyes
in the morning when I kiss him awake,
to know he will be there to hold me
when life slaps back and leaves a bruise,
to keep my arms open and words gentle
when he needs to unburden himself,
to give and take and take and give
over and over in an endless river of sharing.
I'm afraid.
I'm so afraid it won't ever happen,
that I will live the rest of my days
unlit, unwarmed by the steady sun
of someone's love.
They say you reap what you sow.
Well, I don't think
I have ever sown enough heartbreak
to harvest the mantle of hurt I wear
these dark days.
Oh please let there be somebody. . .
please let us find each other
before the sun sinks deep
behind the far western clouds.
