The Seashell's Tale

I am a seashell,
you are the sea, furious
with contempt for mediocrity,
full of mighty swells of ideas.

But things are all I know:
lopsided starfish, a hermit crab,
tide pools with anything
new or strange.

I wait for your storm,
the threat of force which follows
your calm, exuberant spells.
Your foam is sharp needles

trying to extort more from me
than I have.
I'd give a speck of sand
but you want a drop of blood.
