the gods must have loved you,
all gods:
inanna lay with her mates
before your flowers bloomed.
legba was your sun, sitting
at crossroads under his sacred tree.
all the muses crowded
around your cradle, laughed
their gentle tunes into your face,
then left you to the comfort of the winds.
today, your dusty tracks
lead me to rocks exhaling wisdom,
to caves where shadows of the past
still dance at night.
the sea, your maiden mother, sighs
at your feet, lulls you to sleep,
my ancient arab baby, sleep.
