Reflection
The mirror's espionage
Catches the couple coping
With life after love;
Patting their crisscrossed hair,
Untwisting his gnarled belt,
Straightening the slender sleeve
On her special dress.
Their faces are fully reflected:
Glitter bounces from her chin
And off his forehead
Against the poker-faced mirror;
Then back to the rumpled bed,
Which the reflection
Can only capture partially.
With guiltless faith
These eager lovers trusted
The discretion of the looking glass;
Allowed it to watch their naked
Secrets build-up and explode; and,
Let it listen to their muffled voices,
Whispered to an indifferent moon.
