The Bentwood

Tattered torn tapestry seat
sagging with the weight of remembrance --
Your arched back stretched long, high.
Curvature, twine and inlay,
a calligraphy cut in wood.

Speak to me of a time to come
where age and memories entwine.
and hypnotized by your metronome
of rocking
          and of resting --
of silver hair and wisdom --

an empty chair
          and a quiet time --

an empty chair
          and stillness.
