cavendish summer night

it is too dark for shadows: no moon.
she has retired while she's bleeding.
clouds would be no obstacles tonight,
she'd shine unchallenged.

beneath my feet, the grass is wet
with weeping for the elves
who never dance on dark moon nights.

the wind sings such strange lovesongs,
the sky is a jet-black whisper
studded with stars.

everything is silent with awe,
except the cicadas: blind
and noisy with love.
