Man at the Hyatt Pool
Man in white cotton robe
and rubber shoes
canes his way to a chair
taking toddler steps.
He sits, rests cane
on Futurestone.
Leg ejects from robe, tanning.
"Is that water cold?" he asks
girl in the shallows.
"Cold," she nods, "cold as Alaska."
His eyes close. The sun
feels as the sun felt
a thousand months ago,
when he was
learning to swim
sweet blue water
that burned like ice.
