In Bible Camp
they would wrap us
in tin foil,
send the children
out the door
singing
"Onward Christian Soldiers"
My sword of the spirit
was a cardboard box
of Cheerios, with a point.
I still remember the heaviness
of it all
feet in shoe boxes,
shield at my side,
sweat which
filled my nose with
what I thought was
The Sweet Smell of Jesus.
Still we marched
up the street and back again
To show the world what we
were made of
Paper, cardboard, Reynolds Wrap,
and a need to follow
where ever we
were led.
