She Touches Stars

Hands cracked, callused,
raspberry juice stained,
compete with chickadees
for the last few birch leaves.

She uses the sun, water,
leaves to weave baskets
to hold herbs picked
today from the wilds.

Sun warms her back
as cold slithers down
the mountain side
carrying 32º in his pocket.

Flannel, wool, cotton
woven tightly caresses
her to sleep beneath stars
city folk only dream about.
