Creation
Lay paper, black, on the floor.
Use tempera for color. It lasts for years.
Watercolor's evanescent, rain washes it away.
Oil demands a practiced hand.
Scan the night sky and choose a constellation.
It's yours to reproduce or alter.
Let the Great Bear become a Walrus,
the Archer, a Fisherman!
Paint as many stars as satisfy you.
We can put down more paper.
Old stars shine blue or purple,
whatever you wish.
One request. Paint a swatch of
The comet your grandmother watched
sixty years ago.
