Egypt, If You Hear
Egypt, if you hear me now,
call out from your many-chambered tomb
stacked with golden chairs
and boats and cats.
If Ra has pulled you out
and taken you to some jeweled
heaven, sunk deep in deepest space,
send back a sign:
a newborn
or a star
or let me think that
what you thought was foolhardy,
the apogee of death
just a room forgotten.
