Baptism

They walked together talking about everything and nothing. The early October sky was a desperate shade of gray. Neither expected rain, so when it came with quiet fury they looked first perplexed, then amused. Both were soaked within moments. With this baptism came an unexpected attraction. An unspoken pact that had survived years of friendship was broken. He reached up to trace her cheekbone. It was not the touch of a friend but a lover. Her hand joined his still at her cheek. Their fingers intertwined and the cool drops of leaden gray mingled and skipped in the narrow spaces where flesh met. Their lips were slick with autumn rain as they kissed for the first time with hunger. As others fled the downpour, two people stood washed in it's awakening.
