never ask lila anything about home
everything, everything written in water
and fire the rose bush
out front always drowning
or burning before anything could bloom
then there was lila's love
running through the bones
of a gypsy-eyed boy
with a tree's x-ray sprayed across his chest
in the cradle of those branches
lila built a treehouse
NO GIRLS ALLOWED
painted on the door
where only she could live
