The Measuring Spoon
How do you calculate
emptiness in ways
it clearly massacres?
A double basin
in spacious bathrooms--
just one side mussed
with toothpaste chalk.
A closet to yourself
where room
stinks bad
like soiled fruit.
Wine without
ten finger toasts.
Garage half empty.
Lawn too long.
A pair of mugs
where one becomes
a candy dish.
A door ajar
where silence rules.
The measuring spoon:
love eats alone--
shares supper
with a cloying dog
and empty bottles
in the trash.
