Pages of Knowledge

I killed the dragon and ate his heart,
   to nourish myself with myth.
I stalked the child in the dark forest,
all the better to see fable.
I flew with Icarus, falling when wings melted,
to see ego exalted and punished.
I jumped from a masted ship to follow a mermaid,
to breathe the atmosphere of another world.
I dined on blood as my victim fainted,
to experience the eternity of immortality.
I haunted the attic with ghosts of my ancestors,
   in order to relive history.
I dared to seek knowledge among the pages.
