The Telegraph

"There are sorrows keener than these."
Jane Kenyon (1947-1995)

As we squabble like two old crows,
hail draws daggers, pierces the roof,
boxing our trite little words.
The echo of a real storm
digs the sun out of a grave,
perches its penny between two thumbs.

A sink full of dishes,
dirty or not, is a subject
to toss in the trash.
Ambushed by that symphony,
we stroll outside, hug tightly
beneath the elephant cloud.
