Ghosts in the House

I watched her move
from room to room in daylight
hunting the spectres of her nights

her hands reached for ghosts
who walked through brick
to lay paint on doors
and inscribe ink on fabric.

and I held her
when furniture drifted upstairs
out through a window
and across the roof
behind the cat's green eyes
