So Big

How could it be this small?
Only a stand of shacks.
Summer cottages with peeling paint.
Overgrown lawns along a dirt road.
It had been so big.
The whole world on a warm August weekend
When days would stretch forever and
I could hold a promise in my hand then
Skip it across the bay.
