Edge of Friendship Seven years I wandered in this wilderness, not recognizing faces,
rarely seeing smiles, keeping my head down and getting through each day. But yesterday, I heard a child cry. Her distress pierced my mother's heart and I followed the sound.
Across my yard, across the grain fields, I stepped into another person's space. The child stood safe within a hug. Her grandmother comforted her and
turned at my introduction. She beamed as if she had been waiting all these years, just as I had,
to say, "Hi, I'm your neighbor." ~Dawn Goldsmith Dawn Goldsmith has essays and articles published in Christian Science Monitor, Skirt! Magazine and other publications. She reviews books for Publisher's Weekly and Crescent Blues E'magazine. Her
