Here, on the edge of this cliff stained green from the rain,
see me waddle on comical orange feet
or fly with stubby wings that beat against the sky --
part Donald Duck, part Tweety Pie
to the folk in blue cagoules.
Life's a Loony Tune, you know
and look, you can get the t-shirt of the show,
the postcard, pen, coaster, case for mobile phone,
my bright striped bill stuffed full of silver fish,
most likeable icon of Summer.
All cartoon heroes need a foe.
Mine's a man with a stick and a net
and a sack he plans to keep me in once he's snapped my neck
and a pile of sheep dung for smoking me,
most tasty local delicacy.
So watch, if you will, the hilarious chase.
See him stretch, see me dodge,
see him step off the cliff,
pedal in air --
then drop to the ground.
And what do you know, there isn't a sound
from the lava-black sand
from the gray Arctic sea.
No I'll-get-that-pesky-bird recovery.
Guess That's All Folks.
