Afternoon Lunch
"When shall we live, if not now?"
~Seneca
If she walks in single,
sees the wine glass
inhaling the remnants
of morning light
during the arm's length
review, she will bathe
in a table
by the window,
able to eat alone
(grilled portabellas
over thinly sliced
provolone) and soak
in that first turn
after noon when
it dawns on each of us
that we never eat alone
when we have an
afternoon by a window
and now.
