After the Storm

Wet leaves
camp on asphalt
like gypsies
spreading in ambush.
With sticky hands,
they plant
veins into soles
of passing shoes,
hitch rides even
with the lowest winds,
invade houses with
foliate mud
and sleep anywhere
but in trash-baskets.
