Indecision
after Ronald Perry
Once, I longed for the cool
Breath of the forest
To feel the wind and
The cool rain on my face
With a flower or a tree,
White orchid, red oak,
Where before there had been
Nothing, wanting new
Stems, branches, leaves
Waving
Fresh white lilies as far
As the eye can see.
Later, I wanted
Fierce ocean and shore, surf
High, the waves
Pounding, carving the sand.
Now, as I walk
The rocky, perilous coast
I feel I would like
The sunny meadow
Grass long, tall and clean.
