Heavy Duty Matador

What's that line in the road?
That S curve
of something that breathed
once, but doesn't today.

Long muscled and thick,
comprised of vertebrae
flexible, now flat
in several places.

A bull snake of course.
It makes me think
the rolling matador that hit it --
four tons of iron,
wearing a name tag emblazoned with
Ford, Dodge or Chevy --
must have been red.
