The Meaning of Life Neon reflects off his pale face as the harsh brown liquor burns
his virgin throat. The bartender doesn't ask questions, nobody seems to care
it's the first time he ventured from his sheltered confines in years. The glass empties and his clarity dissipates. The richness of his
revelation diminishes. A busty brunette bumps into him without apology. Her perfume
lingers, freshening the musty air. The bartender shoves another glass at him
while swiping a couple bucks off the bar. Just a few hours ago, years of mediation climaxed as the meaning
of life flashed into his consciousness. He frowned at time wasted. He could
reveal the answer, but they'd call him crazy. Patrons around him continue worthless pursuits. Everyone seems to
radiate negativity. The sacred pureness that overwhelmed him while transcending
caged human thought now seems like a distant dream. The true meaning of life is unreasonable for the masses. As his glass empties again, he decides to spend the rest of his
inheritance uselessly drunk. Once broke, the towering elm in front of his
mansion seems adequate to wrap a car around and save the world from the meaning
of life. ~Kevin Gruzewski Kevin Gruzewski lives near Chicago, IL. When not writing, he works
