Sid Turns 40

He arrived on your second birthday,
wrapped in pink tissue paper,
and just stayed.

He's been to Girl Scout camp
and the University.
He's survived boyfriends, marriages,
and armies of kids.

His shabby, faded body beams.
Child-chubby legs still invite
your squeeze.

Sky blue eyes stare,
but never sneer.
Floppy ears listen,
but never judge.

He's summer sunshine sheltering
your heart, yearning for play,
embracing your secrets.
